Math Challenge Tournament

What: Cougar Ridge Elementary is hosting the 2024 National Math Challenge Tournament.  This exciting event provides a valuable and fun opportunity for our young students to showcase their skills in a variety of math topics.  Math Challenge Tournament is a National Mathematics tournament open to Grade 2 – 5 students.  Students in Grade 1 can participate; however, they will be competing at a grade 2 level, division 2.  More information HERE.

When: Saturday, April 20, 2024

Where: Cougar Ridge Elementary, MPR

Who: Grade 2-5 students

Time: 3:00pm PST

Duration: 1 hour to complete the test

Cost: $25 per student Tournament fee is non-refundable and non-transferable - 20% of the tournament fee will be given back to participating schools (through the MCT give back programs). 

This tournament is in-person only and not available online. Seats are limited and first come first serve.  All registered students will immediately receive a registration confirmation email containing additional information. If you don’t see the confirmation email, please check your spam or junk folder.

FAQs

Question: During registration, there is a dropdown question asking for Tournament Division. 

Answer: Cougar Ridge participants should choose Division II. Division I is for kids who are enrolled in full day accelerated programs like Merlin.

Question: I need to change my registration.

Question: I’d like to volunteer at the event.

Answer: Awesome and thank you so much!  Just answer yes to the volunteer question during registration.  We’ll also have a signup for those not participating but would like to help out.


About Math Challenge

  • Math Challenge (Math in Action) is a free Math Enrichment program offered to all Cougar Ridge Elementary students by the Ellipsis Academy throughout the year.
  • All students K to Grade 5 are invited to participate. It is free and no registration is needed.
  • Students can start anytime after the challenge starts.
  • There will be 15 challenges throughout the school year; each set is published every other week starting in late September and ending in May. 
  • Each challenge presents 10 to 18 problems ordered by level of difficulty.

Benefits of Math Challenge Program

  • The purpose of this program is to engage and challenge students to solve interesting math problems while along the way, strengthen their math fundamentals. 
  • Math Challenge Program improves the overall students' attitudes toward math. 
  • Students can also involve their families to help and engage in a fun discussion to solve math problems. 

How to Submit Your Answers

  • Each challenge will be released on a Friday. You will have about 2 weeks to complete a challenge. 
  • Submit your answers online. It allows automated evaluation and speeds up the evaluation.  

Prizes

        Students who submit 12 challenges or more will be recognized at the end of the school year.
