Karen Burnett is a well-known author who has won many awards for her books (i.e., Best Children’s Book, The National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval, Teachers’ Choice AwardSM). Prior to writing books, Ms. Burnett was a School Counselor for twenty years. Ms. Burnett has a knack for presenting complex ideas in a simplistic and graphic manner that students are able to easily grasp. Ms. Burnett’s visits at schools help build resiliency in students, as well as teach personal empowerment and determination to children.
Ms. Burnett visits schools and provides two assemblies to students where she teaches a variety of ways they can respond to challenging situations they frequently encounter. After the assemblies, Ms. Burnett meets with each grade level separately to discuss these topics further and if time permits practice role-plays. In addition, Ms. Burnett provides a program to parents in the evening in which she discusses identical topics. This allows parents to use the same language with their children at home and review concepts that they learned during the assembly.
Ms. Burnett will be presenting an assembly to all Cougar Ridge Elementary students on Friday, September 9th. This evening session is a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn about what will be covered and to partner with their students and teachers to develop a common language to discuss the important topic of how best to empower your children to handle situations with determination and confidence.
