| 4th/5th Grade Book Club | Victoria Evans | 11/21/2011 |
4th/5th Grade Book ClubThe first meeting of the 4th/5th grade Book Club was held the evening of November 10th, and by all accounts was lots of fun and definitely worth repeating! The evening involved sharing favorite or key parts of the book, building and sharing mini Legos sculptures that represented important ideas or events, and finally (for those interested) navigating the climbing wall in the gym. The 16 participants decided the first book choice was so successful, that the next book will be the second in the Everest Series by Gordon Corman-- The Climb . Many thanks to coordinator and facilitator Robin Lessing! Please watch the Weekly for ... read full article |

| September 2011 Legislative Update | Sally Feldman | 9/20/2011 |
September 2011 Legislative UpdateAt the end of the school year last spring the big news was that the Legislature’s compromise budget cut $4.3 million from Issaquah Schools, but thanks to the levy lid lift and other cost-cutting measures by the District, local teachers given layoff notices in the spring were called back. Because the Issaquah School District was able to stop layoffs, class sizes remain the same as previous years. Also, even though certified staff are facing a 1.9% salary decrease, the District and the Issaquah Education Association reached an agreement that will allow staff to earn the decrease back by taking more ... read full article |

| Legislative update, June | Kris Fuehr | 6/6/2011 |
Legislative update, JuneThe Special Session is over, and the state House of Representatives and Senate agreed to a compromise budget which cuts $4.3 million from the Issaquah School District’s operations revenue over the next two years. The largest hit areas are salary apportionment and staffing ratios. We can expect to see a 1.9 percent cut in teacher allocations and a 3 percent cut in administrator allocations. In addition, pension-rate contributions will increase by 2 percent. Fortunately there will be no increase in class-size in the District for K-4 in the 2011-2012 school year as originally believed, and there will be no cuts in ... read full article |
